C. Bernard (Bernie) Carey Jr., 83 of Naples, Florida since 1995, peacefully went to his Eternal Home on June 1, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Bernie was born in Chicago on December 16th, 1934 to Clarence Carey and Elaine Goyette Carey.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Rita Carey (Kellman), 5 Children, Brian (Karen), Laura, Scott, Linda, and Danny. 10 Grandchildren, Chris (Jackie), Michelle (Derek), Jack, Christine, Lauren (A.J.), Brian, Sarah, Mark, Ryan, and Rachel, and 3 Great Grandchildren, Avalyn, Mckenzie, and Connor.
Bernie's illustrious 35 year devotion to law enforcement included careers with the FBI, Cook County Sheriff's Department, was elected to 2 terms as Republican State's Attorney of Cook County, and ended his career as a Cook County Circuit Court Judge. A Graduate of St. Mary's College in Winona, MN and DePaul University Law School, and Bernie was also a proud member of the Naval Reserve for 8 years.
Bernie's interests included a life time of collecting stamps and diecast toy cars while traveling the world. His ideal day in retirement included a morning at the community pool with spirited political discussions, afternoons working on his collections, and evenings with Mary Rita watching sunsets from their lanai.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 15th, 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, 3000 Orange Blossom Drive, Naples, FL. Mary Rita is forever grateful to Avow Hospice for the kind and loving care the staff provided to Bernie in his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernie's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Avow Hospice.
