Born on September 18, 1948 in Charleston, SC, Wally was the son of the late Walter Deas Missel, Sr. and Alice Elizabeth Cammer Missel.
Wally graduated from Chicora High School, North Charleston SC in 1967. He then joined the Air Force after high school as a F4 Fighter Plane Mechanic. He served in Spain and Turkey during the Vietnam War, rank Sgt. After returning from service, he then served at Charleston Naval Shipyard Shop #51, electricial shop and worked on Nuclear Submarines until 1996. After the closing of the Charleston Naval Shipyard, he worked with Charleston County where he would retire.
Wally cherished every minute with his family, especially at the River House enjoying its natural beauty. He adored his five grandchildren, they were his pride and joy. He spent every minute he could cheering them on from the stands.
In addition to his beloved wife of 51 years Miriam Missel, Wally is survived by son, Nathan Deas Missel, daughter, Guinette Missel Robinson, son-in-law John Edward Robinson, five adoring grandchildren Seth Jaidan Robinson, Sterling Deas Missel, Cody Landon Robinson, Julia Morgan Missel and Maya Brigid Missel. Two sisters, Kathy Marie Missel and Lisa Missel Wilson (Rick). Cherished by his fur grand Rocky.
In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by his sister Daisy “Cissy” Missel Davidson.
There will be a visitation on Tues, September 7, 2021 starting at 11:30 am. A Life Well Celebrated Service will be at 1 pm in the Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Burial will follow in the Carolina Memorial Gardens with Air Force Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, A cause he believed in, would be appreciated.
