cancer at his residence on February 27, 2021 surrounded by family.
Tom was born October 1, 1953 to Roy & Virginia Marshall of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He grew up in Mt.
Pleasant and on Sullivan’s Island. He graduated from Moultrie High School, attended Gordon Bible
College in Georgia and went to the Police Academy in SC. He graduated and became a police officer at
the age of 20. He worked for City of Charleston, Charleston County Police Department, Sullivan’s Island,
Folly Beach Public Safety (where he was acting chief for a bit) and was a Volunteer Firefighter, Berkeley
County Sheriffs Dept. and finally settling in at Dorchester County Sheriff Dept. as a Detective. Tom loved
his job as a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO).
Along with being a LEO, Tom enjoyed playing co-ed softball, shooting pool in a pool league and umpiring
little league baseball for decades. He finally retired as a Detective after 40+ years. Instead of enjoying
retirement life he went into the Private Investigator business with his former DC Sheriff and went on to
work school security for the local schools in his area and then added to the list School Crossing Guard at
one of the local elementary schools. Tom dedicated his life to helping others and was a hero to so many.
Tom was predeceased by his dad Roy Myles Marshall, his mother Virginia E. Hopkins (stepdad Lester).
He is survived by his wife, Patricia F. Marshall; his four children Angel Marshall-Cooke, Thomas Marshall,
II. (Suzanne), Amanda Marshall and Justin Marshall; eight grandchildren; Cole Marshall, Gabrielle
Marshall, Trasen Cooke, Blake Marshall, Joss Marshall, Brynlee Marshall, Jordyn Marshall and Brynna
Marshall. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
Celebration of his life will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 at 2pm at the Fleet Reserve Association Low
Country Branch at 99 Wisteria Rd., Goose Creek, S.C. Interment with full Police Honors at 3:30pm at the
Carolina Memorial Gardens 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, S.C.
