She was born April 4, 1954, in Covington, VA, the daughter of the late Oscar E. Humphries and the late Helen Humphries Etling.
Susan earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Loyola University in New Orleans. She worked at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston Memorial Hospital and Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital where for 25 years she served as the hospital’s night shift supervisor. Her skill and passion for nursing were evidenced by those patients and families under her care.
Faith was always foremost in Susan’s life as she grew in her beliefs and Christianity as a member of College Park Baptist Church. She always enjoyed the fellowship with the members there, as well as the opportunity to use her beautiful voice in the singing of hymns.
She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt who will be remembered for her selflessness and her generous love for her family. Her love of family also extended to her precious pets, particularly, Auggie, who she referred to as her “Little Boy.”

Martin and husband William of Moncks Corner, SC; brothers-in-law, James R. Pop of St. Mary’s , GA, David Graves and wife Mindy of Kennewick, WA, Thomas Graves and wife Gwendy of Kennewick, WA, Paul Graves of Outlook, WA, and father-in-law, Henry Graves of Outlook, WA; nieces, Melissa Sefcik and husband Mike of Goose Creek, SC, Rachel L. Pop of St. Mary’s, GA, Renee Ewing of Williamsburg, VA, Christina Fancote of Hodges, SC, Emily Graves of Kennewick, WA and Lauren Albright of North Charleston, SC and nephews, Will Carter of Goose Creek, SC, Stephen Humphries of Williamsburg, VA, Adam Graves of North Charleston, SC, Shawn Graves of North Charleston, SC, Baileigh Graves of Kennewick, WA and Daniel Graves of Kennewick, WA.
Susan was preceded in death by stepfather, Albert L Etling; sister, Sharon L. Pop; brother, Larry E. Humphries; mother-in-law, Marlene Graves of Outlook, WA and brothers-in-law, Stephen Graves of Sunnyside, WA and Mark Graves of North Charleston, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s name to the SPCA, 131 Central Berkeley Drive, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremation located at 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222. Susan’s Celebration of Life Service will be at 3:00 pm on Monday, October 4, 2021, in the Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
