

Robert Dabney “R.D.” Morton, 77, of North Charleston entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2014. He was born on January 29, 1937 in Phenix, VA, the son of the late Ressie Mae and Clifton Morton. R.D. served in the US Air Force, worked at Westvaco as a machinist and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a machinist in Shop 38. He was a member of Doorway Baptist Church where he served faithfully for 25 years as an Adult Church Training Teacher, deacon, church treasurer and other ministries of the Church. He was a Mason and Shriner Fellowship Lodge #400. R.D. was a skilled mechanic and enjoyed working on cars and lawn mowers. He was always willing to help a friend or neighbor and was truly a modern day Good Samaritan. R.D. is survived by his wife of 56 years, Merle Dean Sherrill Morton. He is also survived by two children, Robert Gregg Morton (Renee) of Summerville and Dawn Corley (Chuck) of Lexington and two grandchildren, Robert Jacob and Adam Gregg. Also surviving are three brothers, Drever (Roberta) of Lynchburg, VA, Willie (Bonnie) of Lynchburg, VA, Jack (Betty) of Milton, FL and one sister, Clara Isaacs of Gladys, VA. Memorials may be made to Doorway Baptist Church, 7825 Dorchester Road, Charleston, SC 29481. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Carolina Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
