Please accept my deepest sympathies.  Norm always made me feel to home the few times that I did go to the reunion.   Our family will always be grateful that Norm, Shiela, Kelli, and Bob came to Cleveland to visit my dad at the nursing home before he passed away.  I will always remember Norm as a very good man.

Greetings All:

My Mom doesn't have the Internet, but she wanted me to share a few thoughts with you:

When Norm, Sheila, Kelli, and Bob visited my Dad (Alex R. Laird) in Cleveland in March of 2019, my Mom (Judy Laird) was very grateful to see everybody.  And she still is.  She said that Norm spoke to her about my Dad, and about how he had known my Dad for as long as anyone, and how my Dad was dealing with his own afflictions in the best way he knew.  My Mom still finds deep comfort in this conversation and what Norm said.  Indeed, group pics from this memorable visit are still hanging at her house, and she told me again just tonight how happy she was for everyone to make such an effort on behalf of her husband.

Also, my Aunt (Lee Ann Laird) was very fond of Norm.  She'd ask about him whenever I saw her, and we'd text Norm sometimes on a holiday, because she wanted to hear how he was doing.  My Aunt has known Norm since the 1950s, and she told me how much she admired him as a kid.  I can also remember how happy Lee Ann was when we all got together in March 2019 in Cleveland, and also how sad she was when everyone left for the hotel that Saturday night.

These are a couple entries on behalf of two of Norm's admirers who don't have the Internet.

Norm was always one of my favorite cousins.  We would always have a great time golfing, drinking beer, and just getting together.  Without him, the family reunion will never be the same.  I’m very sorry that I will not be able to attend the services, but I will be thinking of him and all of you.  Please find it in your heart to forgive me for not attending.  I love you all. I want to express my condolences to all of Norm's family and friends.  I met Norm in our Tuesday and Thursday Golf outings and he was such a joy to be around. Always had words of encouragement and definitely liked to have a good time. He will definitely be missed by our group. May he rest in God's Peace.

We first met Norm and Beth when they moved in across the street from us.  I asked him he needed help but by the time I was able to help him, he was done! He reminded me of that often!
Another memory is the time Beth, Norm, Jan and I went golfing at the Weapons Station. He was trying to  tell Beth what to do, the next thing we knew Beth was dragging her clubs to the car and Norm said , Well, I guess we are done"
We will miss you Norm, your dry sense of humor, your Michelob Ultras and our fun adventures!!

Bob and Pat Block will miss Norm very much. We had so many good times traveling with him and Beth over the past few years. Bob enjoyed the card games at his house. Norm enjoyed my sweet potato casserole whenever he was over for dinner. Our condolences to the entire family. Love you, Norm!


Dear Norm Laird Family and Friends!!!   Please accept our heartfelt expression of sympathy and condolence on the passing of NORM.  May he Rest In Peace and Forever be showered with the GRACE AND THE ETERNAL LIGHT OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.  I golfed with Norm and shared many fond memories of our ELKS Lodge. I have known Norm for over 20 years and consider him one of my best friends. We have participated together in several organizations including the Summerville Elks, The F.O.P.’s ( a group of 5 couples that hang out together) and a poker group of 6 close friends that played “Penny Anny” poker on a regular basis.  In addition, for the past 10 plus years we went out to dinner on most Friday nights together.  One of the regular places that we had dinner on Friday was the Fleet Reserve Association and to my knowledge, we ate there on Friday nights for over 10 years. However, Norm was not a member because they only allowed membership for Marines, Navy or Coast Guard Veterans and Norm was an Army Veteran. He was well known by other FRA members and staff and they thought he was a member and when they gave us the “book” to sign in, they gave it to him to sign the rest of us in as guests. Norm also mostly ate the same thing – Lemon Pepper Wings with French Fries. The waitress never asked him what he wanted, she just ordered it.  
He was a very generous man with his time and always the first to volunteer whether it was to help his friends with handyman projects or help someone move.  He climbed on my roof more than once to help fix water leaks or replace my car brakes or fix my riding mower and I think Carol Tully can attest to the fact that we helped her and her husband Larry move, not once but twice. 
Norm only got annoyed with me once when I tricked him into picking me up at the Fleet Reserve so they could surprise him for his 80th Birthday Party. The plan was for me to call him at home to come and rescue me because my car broke down. Wouldn’t you know it, when he arrived he couldn’t find a place to park and circled the building a few times. Then when he did come in, he wanted to look at my car to help me fix it. I then told him I had to finish a beer and took him to the party room for his surprise.  Not sure that he trusted me after that.
Joyce & I will miss him terribly!
