Mary Elizabeth Thomas responded to the divine summons of God from her home on Tuesday, December 28, 2016. Mary was the only child born to the late Annie and Albert Hill on January 24, 1932, at Lying In Hospital, New York City. Mary grew up and lived in Harlem, New York City, of many years. This is where she met and married Herbert Thomas. They were married on July 24, 1954. To the union was born one beautiful daughter Sherrell. Mary was educated in the New York City Public School system. After completion of her education, she began her career with the New York City Telephone Company. She remained a faithful employee until her retirement after 35 years of service. Mary accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age. She became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Harlem, New York City. She attended regularly along with her mother, grandmother, and daughter. Mary, a native New Yorker, lived in New York City and New Jersey until she relocated with her daughter and son-in-law to South Carolina in 2003. Mary was a fun loving and cheerful woman. She loved to travel and she loved fashion. She was affectionately known as Snookie. She was indeed a Diva. Mary leaves the following family members to cherish her with fond memories: her daughter, Sherrell Nelson, son-in-law, Andrew Nelson, grandson, Joshua Nelson, step-granddaughter, Angeline Nelson. Her lifelong special friends are Nora Mobley, Freda Staton, Irma Wright, Janice Evans. She leaves behind a host of in-laws, cousins, extended family members, Carolyn Moore (Bruce) and their children, Madison and Brosnan, and friends too numerous to name.
