Mary Elizabeth Crabb (Terry) Bowen Barber departed this earth on September 9, 2018 at 8:30 am at her home in Goose Creek, SC surrounded by her friends and family. She was born in Wilkes County in Traphill, NC. on June 29, 1925 one of ten children to Thomas W Crabb and Maude Cothren Crabb.
Of which she had survived all.
Terry was the loving wife to the late Lewis L Barber Sr. She is survived by her 5 children; Kenneth R Bowen of New Orleans, Sherry B Mylan of Goose Creek,SC, Phillip G Bowen of Pimlico, from her first marriage , Lewis L Barber Jr. of Columbia, SC and Angela Barber Glick of Summerville, SC from her second marriage. Included are their respective spouses and 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Terry was an avid & dedicated spouse , mother, gardener and bowler most of her adult life.
Terry was a member of USBC for 42 years, which began in Charleston in 1962. Terry was inducted into the Greater Charleston USBC Association Hall of Fame on January 21, 2012. She held positions of league President for 18 years & league Secretary/Treasurer for 36years. She served as a Director on the CWBA for ten years and represented the CWBA as a delegate at the national level in 1981. She was a certified coach for youth bowlers at Sandpiper Lanes & instrumental in forming several leagues over her bowling career. She has many honor awards & league championship wards to her credit as well. She was nominated not only for her service but also for her honest & caring attitude for others, her family & her community. Terry's loyalty and dedication were beyond reproach. She last served as secretary/treasurer of the Goose Creek Mixed League at Royal Lanes.. Outside of bowling, Terry volunteered with the Special Olympics & American Red Cross.
She was a member of John L. Flynn #277 Order of Easter Star in Goose Creek, SC and the Elks PBO Does Charleston #231.
She supported her husband, Lew , and participated in numerous charities and endeavors of the Masons, Shriners , VFW & American Legion.
She loved her home and was an avid gardener. She would often spend hours bringing life & beauty to both. She was always rearranging furniture & decorating even at 93 which lead to her decline.
She will be missed by all her family & friends alike; she may be gone from our sight, never from our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Sunday ,September 23,,2018 at 1 pm with Services at 1:30 pm and graveside service at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice.
