Kenny was a class mate of mine.  I remember his kind and gentleman ways.  Always a smile.  In high school he was the cat's meow.

Dearest Mim's Family,

I had the honor and privilege to host your family on numerous occasions here in Daytona Beach for the Summer NASCAR races.  It was an pleasure to get to know all of you through the years. I consider Kenny to be one of the finest men I have ever known...

I have been sharing the passing of Kenny with all of your old friends including Gloria, Marilyn, Gene, and Chris. We are all heartbroken of our friends passing. Our love, thoughts, and prayers go out to all of you.  

While not related, I knew him as Uncle Kenny and got to know him through my friend Allison on family trips to Daytona. Uncle Kenny treated me like family and was a kind and generous soul. He was a huge NASCAR fan and his love of it was infectious for anyone around him. He made me laugh so many times over and I’m glad that on our last trip with them he got to meet my husband Jerry.  Rest In Peace Uncle Kenny!

Kenny Mims was my 2nd cousin - his dad, Lee, was my 1st cousin but we were so similar in age that Kenny shared many of our interests as teen agers.  Alan, my brother has shared times together during those years, so I won't repeat them.  However, my personal remembrance of Kenny is of a young man of joyful warmth and genuine kindness.  He seemed to delight in having cousins who came from the North and always seemed to actually look up to us as if coming from the North held some special meaning.  The Mims home on Victoria & the beach house at Myrtle Beach were such special playgrounds  for us & Kenny was such an important part of our holidays there, forever wanting to please us and looking for ways to make our stay as much fun as possible.  His gentle laugh I can still hear in my mind's ear - that too had a Southern drawl to it. He was very special and I wish I had had more opportunities to be with all of the Mims children as we grew up into adults.  I know Kenny is in heaven, free of all the trials and pain of this life and I ask God to comfort his wife, Saundra, his children and grandchildren and may each of you know you had a very special husband, a very special dad and a very special grandfather!  Lord, welcome your son into Your presence today!   

I am sorry to learn of your loss.  He was a great businessman, community member and a leader in many ways.  Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers.  

Kenny’s father Lee was actually my 1st cousin , however Kenny was closer to my age. My father’s brother was Harold . We lived in Michigan but every year we would come south to visit “Kin” my brother,  sister and I looked forward to those days! It was heaven to play pin ball machines all day long and never have to put a nickel
 in the machine. Those trips to Myrtle Beach , everyone staying at the Chesterfield hotel  playing all day with Kenny then at night going to the amusement part down the street from the hotel.
Later when we were teens , Kenny had a 1960 blue thunderbird convertible even though he was 15 he “legally” couldn’t drive. My brother was older so I night we went cruising around Charleston. A police car stopped us suspecting we probably stole it. Once he realized  we were Mims  he let us go in pretty fast order. Today We lost a cousin who was always kind to us Yankees and had a big grin and being from the north we hardly understood him. He will be missed , rest well Kenny no more pain.
