Joshua (Josh) Clemens Croom, age 37, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away early Saturday morning, November 7, 2015, at a local hospital. He was surrounded by his loving wife Rachel Croom (nee Rowell), father-in-law Reggie Rowell and several close friends. Josh was born in Sumter, SC, on March 22, 1978, to David Randolph Croom and the late Wanda Lucylle Smith. He graduated from Williamsburg Academy of Kingstree, SC, where he played football. He then attended Lander University in Greenwood, SC, where he majored in communications. In addition to his studies, Josh was an active member of the Sigma Nu fraternity where he developed many wonderful friendships. Josh was employed by DSM in Kingstree, SC. Josh Croom was a loving husband, father and friend. His heart was as big as they come and his first priority was to take care of those around him, especially his wife Rachel and beautiful daughter Scarlett. Whether it was a fellow Sigma Nu, a work colleague, family or buddy, when someone really needed help, Josh was the first one to step in and go above and beyond to lend a hand. Most often when Josh was seen, he was wearing a shirt depicting his beloved South Carolina Gamecocks and his dogs were not far behind. They were truly considered part of his family. He was happiest on the water whether he was making memories on Lake Monticello with his family or fishing and shrimping with his friends. He would share his passion with anyone who wanted to join him and took many a friend on their first shrimping outing. Josh loved to laugh and joke with his closest friends and he kept an entertaining bank of funny stories about pretty much everyone he knew, whether they liked it or not. He had a quick wit that would bring a smile to any room. he was preceeded in death by his mother, Wanda Lucylle Croom (nee Smith), his beloved paternal grandparents Harry Jerome Croom and Weleetka Rosemary Croom (nee Grier), his maternal grandfather, Roy Smith, and his brother in law, Eddie Tompkins. He is survived by his loving wife Rachel R. Croom (nee Rowell) and daughter Scarlett Lucylle Croom. His father David Randoph Croom (Beth), brother Nathan Randolph Croom (Laura), step brother Tyler Scott Grenier (Megan), step sister Emily Sardina (Chris) and maternal grandmother Verdie Smith. In addition Josh is survived by mother-in-law Carolyn Rudy Smith (Larry), brother-in-law Justin Paul McCorcle (Sarah), father-in-law Reggie Bates Rowell (Denice), step sister Summer Tompkins and nephews Audie, Grayson, and Riley and nieces Lexa and Stella as well as numerous close friends and extended family members. The visitation will be held Monday, November 9, 2015 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. The funeral will be held outside on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, 11 a.m. at the Ampitheater at Riverfront Park, 1001 Everglades Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405.
