Jean Ellen Yates, of Branchville, SC entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, 20 January 2021 and was received by the Lord our Father and her patiently awaiting husband, David. Her departure from our earthly world happened peacefully and with the attention of her forever loving children by her side.
Jean was born in Alexandria, Virginia, daughter to Grover Cleveland Claytor (Clev) and Jean T. Claytor on November 25, 1948 and shared her childhood with her sister Judy and brother Cleve. Growing up in a single neighborhood, she was fortunate enough to develop and foster lifelong relationships with several of her childhood friends.
Jean met the love of her life, David, at the local Dairy Queen in 1969 and was soon married. Her marriage to an active duty solider allowed her an opportunity in life that few people get to experience. Jean and David were stationed in Germany in the early part of their marriage and got to experience living in Germany and enjoying the sites throughout Europe, moments she cherished and talked about her whole life.
Jean’s professional career allowed her to take many opportunities to include working for the National Academy of Sciences in Washington D.C. and several accounting and bookkeeping positions for property management firms in Florida and South Carolina. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering in Branchville for the local school; it was there that she developed some of her most adored friends.
Jean had a profound love for reading, enjoying new experiences, cooking, baseball, and the Washington Redskins; but she is most remembered for providing the maternal strength and nurturement for her children, grandchildren and anyone she claimed as family or friend. She had a smile that could light up any room; that smile will truly be missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by her children David T. Yates Jr., Susan K. Strader (Mark), and Julie E. Yates; five grandchildren Jennifer, Steven, Savannah, Samantha, and Douglas; four great grandchildren Owen, Elijah, Clark, and Addison; as well as her siblings Judy Redmon and Grover Cleveland Claytor, III.
A visitation will be held from 1:00pm until 2:00pm on Monday, January 24, 2021 at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremation located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222.
The funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
A reception will follow the service at 443 Green Park Lane in Goose Creek, at the home of Mark and Susan Strader; please join us in celebrating our mama’s life.
