Graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in 1952. Attended Hilder Prep School and the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy. Served on active duty with the U. S. Army for three years. Worked as a senior technician for Atlantic Research Company in the field of solid rocket propellant. Retired from the National Marine Fisheries Service on James Island with 26 years of service. Survived by his wife, Brenda Murphy Bonnet, his son, Brian (Sonia) Bonnet, a daughter Mila (Scott) Mason, son, Ian (Catherine) Bonnet, son Michael Bonnet, and stepson, Joey (Annie) Murphy, grandchildren, Rachel, 1LT (USA) Christian, Victoria, Sabin, Josje, Kaitlin, Tony, Olivia, Sarah Claire, and Christopher, as well as, brothers, Michael and Lance, and sister, Nancy all of Virginia.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday September 1, 2018 at First Christian Church (DOC), 1293 Orangegrove Rd. Charleston, SC 29407 at 3 PM. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 PM- 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in James' honor to either; First Christian Church (DOC), 1293 Orangegrove Rd., Charleston, SC 29407 or Hargrave Military Academy, 200 Military Dr. Chatham, VA 24531.
