Jacqueline Steen Poplin (Jackie) passed away peacefully Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Tampa Gardens in Tampa, Florida. Jackie was born in Charleston, S.C. on December 4, 1939, to James Edward Steen and Sarah Barnett Steen. Jackie is preceded in death by her husband Abie Bartow Poplin, Jr., her parents, and her siblings: Jimmy Steen, John Steen, and Jennifer Steen Heath. Three of Jackie’s five children precede her in death: James Edwin Gibson, Sherrie Gibson Mullineaux and Pamela Gibson Black. Two children survive Jackie: Barbara Gibson Power and William Michael Gibson. Jackie was blessed with nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Jackie enjoyed a life filled with love and laughter. She inspired others with her energetic spirit and unrelenting resilience. Jackie had a long and successful career in the retail, hospitality, and Real Estate industries. She was active in civic and religious organizations throughout her life. She served her country as the wife of an active wartime career marine. She believed in working hard and helping others and instilled those values in her children. Her greatest joy and legacy are her family she loved beyond words.
Jackie is missed by her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Carolina Memorial Gardens 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. The celebration will begin at 11 AM.
