Gayle Owens Charles

Mrs. Charles was born in Indiantown, SC, a daughter of the late John Albert and Nora Patrick Owens. She was a graduate of Indiantown High School. She began working in banking at The Exchange Bank in Kingstree, SC at the age of 17, and retired from Wachovia in Columbia, SC after many years as a bank officer. She was a member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC, where she served as a Deacon. She was a very crafty person who loved nothing more than making gifts for her family. She was a wonderful sister, aunt, and caregiver to several members of her family.

She is survived by her brother, Roger Patrick (Patsy) Owens; special niece, Wendy Epps who was more like a daughter, and many other nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Philip Owens and Harold Owens; sisters, Violet Swope, Vera Epps, Katherine Hanna, Bert Brown, Gene Tisdale, and Dorothy Thompson.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Indiantown Presbyterian Church, 4865 Hemingway Highway, Hemingway, SC 29554. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC.

The family would like to express a very special thanks to Gayle’s nieces; Karen Baxley, and Barbara Simmons for all the loving care that they have shown during Bob and Gayle’s illnesses.
