He was born August 24, 1945, in Baltimore, the only child of Rachel Mae (Nutt) and Chester Leroy Gray. He was a 1963 graduate of Parkersburg High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy in 1965, where he served for 30 years, eventually retiring at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer on October 31, 1995. After his time in the service, he became a small business owner and then pursued a degree in Business and graduated with an associate degree from Trident Technical College in 2006.
He loved working with his hands, and competition in all forms of motor sport. His passion was classic American muscle cars, and bonded quickly with those that shared his love. His sense of humor and easy personality were infectious. He could make anyone comfortable around him.
He is survived by his children, Teresa (Terry) Little; Mark (Lori) Gray; Jacob Gray; five grandchildren and ex-wife, Mie Gray.
Friends, family and others whose lives Gary touched are invited to the Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2020 to celebrate his life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
