Elsie Sowell Tumbleston N. CHARLESTON - Elsie Sowell Tumbleston of North Charleston, wife of Julius L. Tumbleston for 71 years, went on to heaven Friday, January 16, 2015. She was 90 years old. The daughter of Clarence A. Sowell and Gussie Tuttle Sowell, she was born June 3, 1924 in Oliver Georgia. Mrs. Tumbleston was a dedicated homemaker and an expert seamstress and needle worker. She held offices in the Camellia Garden Club and entered many arrangements in garden shows. Her volunteer work included leading a Girl Scout troop and active involvement in the PTA, where she was honored with the Life Membership Award. Mrs. Tumbleston was an active member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir for over fifty years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, music librarian, Sunday school treasurer and held numerous offices in the United Methodist Women, having been honored with a lifetime membership in U.M. W. She was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her brother, Hubert Sowell, and her sisters. Virginia Scott and Amelia Myers, both of Newington, GA. Surviving are her husband and three daughters: Jackie (Bob) Kohn of Charleston, Donna Easterling of West Columbia SC and Susan Lawson of Charleston. She was the proud grandmother of Ryan (Heather) Byrd of Goose Creek, SC, Julia Kohn of Long Beach, CA, Jason (Donna) Easterling of Lexington, SC and Hannah Easterling of Lexington, S. She was preceded in death by grandson, Robbie Kohn. Her great-grandchildren include Clemson Annabelle Byrd and Jaedon Thomas Easterling. Visitation will take place at Carolina Memorial Park Chapel, North Charleston on Monday, January 19 from 5:30-7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, North Charleston at 11 AM Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Entombment will be at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 4900 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC 29418.
