Dorothy Craven

Dorothy was born on the 31st of March, 1943 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. Her parents were Marion Henry Grooms and Raye Ruple Grooms. She was one of four daughters. She graduated from Garret High school and acquired a cosmetology license. Dorothy worked as a stylist and owned her own shop in Hanahan for many years. She later became an interior decorator.

Dorothy was a faithful wife of fifty-four years. She was a loving mother to three children and a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her children, watching them and her grandchildren excel in sports. In her past time, she enjoyed dancing at the Folly Beach Shag Club, boating, sitting on the beach, gardening, baking and entertaining family and friends. Dorothy was involved in the Out of the Darkness /American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. She regularly attended church at Reality Church of Goose Creek.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Dana M Crocker (Jimmy) of Moncks Corner: son, John E Craven III (Sandy) of Goose Creek; five grandsons, David Blackmon (Vicktoria), Sean Fisher (Alison), Evan Blackmon, Harrison Craven, and Hayes Craven; one great grandson Beckham Gallik and sister, Marian Gallager (Bob).

In addition to her loving husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by daughter, Cassandra Craven; grandson, Wade Blackmon; sisters, Clarsie and Rachel and daughter in law, Kimberlee B Craven.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 8, 2023at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremations located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222. Dorothy’s Celebration of Life will follow immediately at 12:00 PM. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
