Donald Wayne Weatherford,48, of Goose Creek, husband of Kim Parris Weatherford entered into eternal rest Thursday March 15, 2018. The relatives and friends of Donald Weatherford are invited to attend his funeral services on Tuesday March 20, 2018 at 1 pm at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, burial and reception will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm at the funeral home.
Donald was born in Charleston, SC, to Ellie (Bill) Weatherford and Mary Templeton Weatherford. Growing up he played soccer, baseball and basketball, and later found his passion in coaching kids. Impacting countless children throughout the years, his loving but firm guidance still helps many today.
He had three siblings, Keith, Ricky and Vicki. Keith and his “big baby brother” Donald were loving opposites who truly did count on one another. Donald adored his brother’s sons Micheal and Shaun and loved rough housing with the boys.
In 1991 he met his new neighbor, Kim Parris. The two became friends, and it blossomed into more. They were married on February 28, 1998 and he gained a daughter in 9 year old Whitney Nichole. Whitney and Donald didn’t know quite what to do with each other at first, but Donald and Whitney’s relationship grew into one of a real father and daughter. In 2003 they had another daughter in Camryn Faith. He was so excited at her birth that he turned his hat around backwards and was ready to catch. The Dr had to move him out of the way to do his job. The love and commitment Donald had for Camryn transcends words; the apple of his eye and his mini me.
For 20 years Donald worked with a wonderful group at ATT. Recently elected to union president, he took pride in his job and his coworkers. Often being the last to leave to ensure everything was done right, his boss could always count on him to take that last call. Many of these people became dear friends, and he loved working along side of them.
When Camryn was old enough to start tee ball Donald was able to join his old passion of coaching with the love for his daughter. Along the way he made many friends, but a friendship of four families was sparked and become something special. The Allens, the Faulkners, the Hodges and the Weatherfords would go on to spend vacations, holidays, and many a good bbq together with Big D behind the grill. Gamecock games always were on the TV or radio as Donald was an avid fan.
Donald was blessed to have two grandchildren in Whitney and Roy Ramsey’s daughters Bryelle and Aubrie. Papa Donald was always ready to play, entertain and encourage.
Donald was larger than life. Size, booming voice that didn’t know how to whisper; he could be intimidating at first, but was really a teddy bear. He leaves a hole in all our lives just as large.
