Deborah J Jernigan

Deborah was born on 20 June 1959 to Otis Murdic Jones and Nannie Ruth Hilton Jones in Charleston, SC.

She graduated from North Charleston High School in 1976 and went on to study nursing at the College of Charleston and the Medical University of South Carolina.

After graduating with a degree in nursing, she started her first nursing position at the Medical University of South Carolina as a Registered Nurse, beginning a 25-year career in the medical field culminating as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the Department of Oncology at Roper Hospital.

In 1975, Deborah met William Keith Jernigan while both were Juniors in High School. Deborah and William were married in 1978, and went on to have three children, Christopher Jernigan, Daniel Jernigan, and Ashley Rasely.

In 2008, Deborah retired and spent her time being a full-time grandmother, enjoying the company of her family. Deborah loved life. She loved listening to Barry Manilow and the Beach Boys and visiting her grandchildren at every opportunity.

She is survived by her husband, William Jernigan, Goose Creek, SC; son, Daniel Jernigan, Tulsa, OK; daughter, Ashley Rasely, Goose Creek, SC; six grandchildren, Liam Jernigan, Benjamin Jernigan, Joanna Jernigan, Chloe Bush, Hailey Rasely, Mason Rasely; sisters, Roslyn Holmes, St. Stephen, SC, Joyce Eubanks, Anderson, SC; brother, Murdock Jones, Bonneau, SC; several nieces and nephews.

Deborah is preceded in death by her father, Otis Jones; mother, Ruth Jones; son, Christopher Jernigan; sister, Nanette Davis; brother, Robert Jones.

A Visitation will be held March 15, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Funerals & Cremation, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday March 16, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
