David Theron Yates, Sr., of Branchville, SC, husband of Jean E. Yates, entered into eternal rest Sunday, August 14, 2016, at his home while surrounded by family. The relatives and friends of David T. Yates are invited to attend his funeral services on August 20, 2016, beginning at 11 o’clock at Carolina Memorial funeral home, burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. David was born in Jacksonville, Florida, a son of Jack L. Yates and Hester (Yates) Mullins. David enjoyed baseball (L.A. Dodgers), football (HTTR), genealogy, and being “Papa Bear” to his kids and grandchildren. David retired from the U.S. Army as a Sergeant First Class, after serving more than 20 years active duty in May 1982. During this time, David served in several assignments in the United States, Europe, and two combat tours in Viet Nam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. David continued to serve his country until 2003, when he retired from civil service with the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Jean E. Yates, children: David T. Yates, Jr. of Rowesville, SC, Susan K. Strader (Mark) of Goose Creek, SC, and Julie E. Yates of Sanford, FL, 5 grandchildren: Jennifer and Savannah Helms, Steven and Samantha Strader, and Douglas Yates, and three great grandchildren, a sister, Lola Keeping, brothers: George and Kayo Mullins.
