Clarence Arthur Ham, 72, of North Charleston, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Hospice of Charleston. Visitation will take place Monday, February 5, 2018 from 1 to 3 pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston. Funeral services will immediately follow in the Carolina Memorial Chapel and burial in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 46 years Valynda Lee Ham of North Charleston; daughter Valynda Ham Mayes (James) of Arlington, Virginia; son David Andrew Ham of North Charleston; daughter-in-law Mary Elizabeth Ham of North Charleston; grandchildren Valynda Estelle Ham and David Arthur Ham of North Charleston; brother Wilson A. Ham (Margaret) of Moncks Corner; sister Margaret Harken of Charleston; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son William A. "Billy" Ham, parents Ruth R. Ham and Wilson A. Ham Sr. of Charleston, and sister Barbara Ham of North Charleston.
Born May 22, 1945 in Charleston, Clarence graduated valedictorian of Chicora High School. Clarence received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Clemson University and served in the United States Army. Upon retiring from the Army Corps of Engineers, he embarked on a second career, culminating in the creation of C.A.HAM ENGINEERING, LLC. He was active in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), serving as treasurer. Clarence enjoyed golf, football, boating, target practice, conservative radio, motorcycle riding, singing to his grandchildren, and most of all working as an engineer—which he did up until the week of his passing.
