Charles W. “Tony” Martin, “The Hawk”, 75, of Hanahan entered into eternal rest on November 13, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. Tony was born on November 20, 1938 in Charleston, SC to Charles Wilbur Wieters Martin and Janie Pearl Martin. He honorably served his country in the Marine Corps Reserve and the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he entered civil service as a fabricator in the parachute shop at the Charleston Air Force Base where he retired in 1985. He was a lifetime member and Past Master of Carolina Masonic Lodge #375, Scottish Rite, Omar Shrine Temple, Hillbilly Clan #82, and the Elks Lodge #242. He enjoyed serving his community on Hanahan City Council and volunteered as Hanahan City Court Bailiff for 13 years; in 2013, he was declared Bailiff Emeritus. On his 75th birthday, the Mayor and Members of City Council proclaimed November 20th as “Tony Martin Day” in the City of Hanahan. He coached and mentored many of Hanahan’s youth in boxing, baseball, and football. He served as President of the Hanahan High School Booster Club. He was an avid fan of the Clemson Tigers, Nascar, boxing, football, and baseball. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Cox Martin; two sons and one daughter: Thomas Craig Martin (Karen), Sanya Renee Martin Brissey (Andy), and Mark Christopher Martin (Cindy); six grandchildren: Ryan Martin, Christen Martin, Aubrie Martin, Jonathon Brissey, Ashlyn Martin, and Ansley Brissey; four step-grandchildren: Jennifer Pankake, Cody Singletary, Hunter Singletary, and Hayley Singletary; and one step-great grandchild, Abigail Carson. He is also survived by one brother, Eugene Martin (Ellen); one brother-in-law, Charles Cox; three sisters-in-law: Merle Cox, Margie Cox, and Jackie Cox; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Martin. The visitation will take place on what would have been Tony and Pat’s 57th Wedding Anniversary, Monday, November 17, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Chapel.
