He was born October 25, 1931, in Newport, RI, the son of the late Wallace and Myrtle Carr Brown. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Myrtle (Herbert) Coggeshall; Florence (Al) Pierce; and Priscilla (Joe) Platt, and his brother Wallace Brown, Jr.
Charlie served with great pride, in both the U.S. Marine Reserves prior to joining the U.S. Air Force and is a veteran of the Korean war. He was a computer programmer/analyst for his entire career in the Maryland area and was a contractor for both the NSA and NASA. After retirement he spent time in Windham, ME; Lewes, DE; New Port Richey, Florida; and the last five years in the Beaufort area of South Carolina.
Charlie loved to bowl, play golf and was a huge sports fan. Loving his New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox’s, through thick and thin, as well as the Redskins, the Orioles, almost any college basketball game and many others. All the cable sports channels were well used. The Lion’s Club (LCIF) was his other great passion. He served in leadership roles for many years, including President of the Colesville, MD district and was a lifetime member. In 1993, Charlie received the LCIF Melvin Jones Fellowship award, which was designated as the highest honor and symbolizes his dedication to humanitarian service.
Charlie is known and loved for his service to others. Whether this be his military service, his dedication and service to the Church and the Lion’s Club, or service and help for neighbors and friends. There was never a time he would not drop everything to help others.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Brown; children Cheryl (Scott) Johnson, Pam (Carl) Schinner, Chuck (Dianna) Brown, Diane Brown, and David (Anna) Brown. Also survived by his grandchildren Carl, Alison, Ashley, Matt, Eric, Evan, Leah, Logan and great granddaughters Adeline and Charlotte. Charlie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
