Catherine Winona Knight

Catherine was born on April 21, 1933 in Charleston SC to the late James Alexander and Lila (Bruorton) Mims.

She attended Chicora High School in the late 1940’s, and from there she worked at Woolworths, Kress in downtown Charleston during the late 1940’s into the early 1950’s. She later worked for the Paragon Plant in Jedburg, SC as well as Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in the 1960’s and 70’s in addition to several dry cleaners in the Charleston-Mt. Pleasant area.

She was a life member of the VFW 3142 and life member of the Lady Auxiliary. She also was

a member of the church, Our Father's House in N. Charleston, SC.

Catherine is preceded in death by her father, James Alexander Mims and mother Lila Bruorton Mims; sisters, Mildred Shastain and Virginia McGowan; brothers, David Timothy Mims and James (Bubba) Alexander Mims; her son, Richard (Danny) Daniel Knight and daughter, Virginia (Kathy) Peach.

Catherine is survived by her brother, William Josiah “Joe” Mims of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Terrie Lynn Arends of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Shawn Knight (Mark) of Summerville, Justin Arends of Goose Creek, Amber Knight of Cross, Danniell knight of Charleston, Elizabeth Knight of Charleston, Crystal Hammonds of Goose Creek, as well as seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of life visitation will be held at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home for Catherine on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Catherine will be laid to rest at Carolina Memorial Gardens on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
