Mom was a special person as all mothers are, her first concern was always family. She spent many hours entertaining her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, each one as special & unique as the one before. There was never a time when she was too busy for us. A simple “I’m bored” brought out the deck of cards, a board game or sometimes a small chore, there was no reason to be bored. We lived in many houses and the moves just magically happened, like the wave of a wand. The only house we didn’t stay in for long was the new one likely because it wasn’t a challenge…no walls to knock down, no addition to build and no wiring or plumbing to upgrade. Mom loved gardening and growing flowers. The garden was huge and the potato patch was always in the field. The weeds were pretty healthy too. Mom took us with her to dig carrots and pick berries and wildflowers. She always could find the best patches, often around abandoned farm houses. We even found hazelnut trees, red current bushes and lots of mosquitoes, ants and spiders! The best berries were always at the bottom of an ant hill or beside a bee hive.
One thing mom never mastered was our little green Anglia, which she drove to bring dad lunch in the field. She cooked many a family feast and her meals were always the best. She knitted many mitts, socks, sweaters and afghans, she always had a project on the go. Mom managed without power and running water with true pioneer spirit. We often joked that water ran uphill from the well two pails at a time, wash day meant many trips to the well. She was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed by all of us. Lillian is predeceased by her husband Albert, daughters Hilda & Sharon, parents William & Yvonne Gagné and her siblings Hilda, Mathilda, Florence, Alice, Lillian, Yvonne, Jules, Henry, Robert, Noel, George, Bill & Peter. She is survived by her children Marietta, Albert, Larry and Brenda, her brother Clem, her 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren as well as numerous brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
