William Glen Glitsch was born on February 23, 1933, in Oklahoma City to Henry V. and Anna G. Glitsch, and went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Norman, and daughter, Jamie Dawn Ryan and her husband Curtis, of Highland Village, TX, and their children, Lillian Abigail, Anna Belle, and William Michael. He was preceded in death by his wife Dawn and son Darren, both parents, and his brother Thomas Glitsch of Woodward, OK. He is also survived by step-children David and Jerri Baker of Mustang, Kathy Baker of Tulsa, Kelly Lang, of Oklahoma City, Jay and Jennifer Baker of Norman, and Kari and Casey Owens of Norman. He was the beloved Papaw to 16 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
As a young boy, Glen was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and as an adult he continued his participation with the BSA as a leader. After graduation from high school in 1951, Glen attended the University of Oklahoma where he played the euphonium in The Pride of Oklahoma and even marched in the Orange Bowl in 1954. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in business from East Central University. In 1957 Glen enlisted in the US Air Force Reserves. In 1961, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was called to active duty, serving until 1962. In 1965, he and Dawn were married. He was very active in his church, serving the Lord in many capacities. He was an ordained deacon, sang in the adult choir, and helped faithfully with the children’s choir ministry. He loved to travel and would take his family on many trips across the United States. He also enjoyed reading and learning about history. In 1983 a tragic car accident took the life of his wife and son.
Glen worked at Kerr McGee for 19 years as an accountant, and then for ten years at City National Bank as an auditor. In 1986 he married Shirley and he joyfully stepped into his role of “Papaw Glen” to her children and grandchildren. After retirement, they spent ten years in Montana where he continued to serve the Lord and others in a local church. In 2005 he returned to Norman where he and Shirley built their dream home in the country. Glen didn't know a stranger. He was kind, compassionate, generous, and giving. We will miss him.
