Terry Lee Childress was born on September 9, 1951 in Westwood, California to Albert and Gerldain Childress Terry left this earth on 8-17-2023 peacefully at his home with his family by his side after a battle with terminal illness.
Terry made the Noble area his home, after attending several schools and finally graduating from Noble High School in 1969, Terry's journey to success started early. He's told us stories of cutting broomcorn, even has a sickle on the wall that he said was used for such, We've never seen a broomcorn, maybe you have. From there he got into concrete, ironworking, making BBQ, a time with the City of Norman, working concerts, said to have worked with Elvis, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Aerosmith and numerous people during his time at the Lloyd Noble center. Finally, Terry ended up as the "Sonic" guy in Noble, Oklahoma after working the central Oklahoma North Texas market taking care of numerous Sonic's in that area.
If you knew Terry, there was no other feasible option but his way and he took that wholeheartedly as he began his Sonic career, he made it his passion and made it his goal that every person he met and saw knew that. Along his Sonic journey and his quest to be the best he could be Terry found a giant calling to serve in his community. Along that journey Terry held titles such as the president of the Noble Chamber of Commerce, an inductee into the Noble Chamber of Commerce hall of fame, He served many rolls in the Noble school system and was inducted into the Noble Foundation for Academic Excellence hall of fame. Terry was appointed as a trustee in the town of Slaughterville by the governor George Nigh and eventually became the mayor of Slaughterville for a period. Terry was a volunteer firefighter for the Slaughterville Fire Dept. for over 15 years. Terry also took great pride in his relationship with the Lord, earning his certificate to serve the ministry in 1971.
Terry was a lifetime member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and many outdoor entities he could support. Terry had a passion in Native American traditions, and their ways of life. Terry enjoyed his extended family in the Little Axe area and treasured his time spent with them, He had passion with feathers, antlers, turtles, turtle shells, anything that took bullets and most things that were just plain dead. If you ever had to slow down for a truck picking up a turtle out of the road, there was a great chance that was Terry, If you've ever seen a feather drawn on a napkin, a wall, or even the dust on a car window there was a great chance Terry had been there. If you know in your heart if it's in a Wal Mart sack, a trash bag, or a plain brown box in the freezer when you get sent to get something out it's probably a bird, squirrel, fish or who knows what else in the freezer, you were in Terry's house.
In the grand scheme of things Terry was about his family and friends, He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his brothers and friends, he enjoyed time with his grandchildren, he enjoyed the outdoors and the beauty God had provided him. Most of all he enjoyed talking to anyone, sharing a story, mentoring a youth, and trying to make anyone and everyone as successful as they could be.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, 2 nephews Shane Childress and Bret Shepard, he is survived by his wife Kathy Bates Childress, brothers Gary Childress, wife Sherry, brother Larry Childress, wife Debbie, brother Carey Childress, son Chris Childress, wife Jennifer, daughter Regina Vazquez, husband Martin, grandchildren Rylee Jackson and John Davis, a great granddaughter Rynlee Robinson, stepson Landon Bates, stepdaughter Audra Carlisle, husband Kyle and her children Bennett, Cohen, and Lucas, nieces, nephews and lots of special friends, you know who you are.
