Steven "Steve" Schultz

Steve grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from U.S. Grant High School in 1968. He then attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. On September 11, 1972 he was accepted into the City of Norman’s 9th Police Academy and began his career in law enforcement. From a young age, Steve always wanted to be a police officer so he could help others. Being a valuable member of the City of Norman’s Police Department, he moved up through the ranks and retired as Major in July 2008 after 36 years of service. During his career, he served as a member of the Cleveland County Youth and Family Services board, was a long time member of the Norman Crime Stoppers where he served on the executive board, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Steve met his wife, Rosemary on a blind date July 14, 1972. After three blissful years of dating, they were married on Friday, June 13, 1975. In December of 1976, they received the call to adopt their first child Emily and in August of 1980 they received the second call to adopt their son Mike which made their family complete.

After retiring, Steve kept busy with his daily runs to Homeland and volunteering at the Norman Regional Hospital Porter campus, the Cleveland County Jail, and in the grocery department for the Cleveland County Christmas Store. Steve was an avid OU Football fan and a huge supporter of Norman High Football. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play football, watching Nascar or NFL Football on Sundays and finishing jigsaw puzzles.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; his daughter Emily Schultz Leach and husband Neil of Norman; his son Michael (Mike) Schultz and wife Patricia of Long Beach, CA; his sister Carol Schultz Staggs and husband Alvin of Blair, OK; his grandsons Connor Leach and Aiden Leach of Norman, OK; and many friends and family.

A wake for Steven will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 N. Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071.
