Sherry Childress, a beloved resident of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on April 22. She was born on January 23, 1947, in Abilene, Texas, to Maynard Roland Long and Dorothy Louise Green. Throughout her life, Sherry was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and friend, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Sherry's heart was forever intertwined with the melodies of Christmas music and the harmonies of The Carpenters. Her favorite colors, red and yellow, reflected the warmth and vibrancy of her personality.
For Sherry, a perfect day was one spent surrounded by her cherished family, reveling in laughter and love. Her infectious laughter was often sparked by her enjoyment of "Funniest Home Videos," a testament to her joyous spirit. But beyond laughter, Sherry exemplified the true meaning of compassion and empathy, teaching those around her how to care for others with unwavering kindness.
Above all, Sherry will be remembered as a caring, loving, and genuine soul. Her love for children and animals knew no bounds, bringing comfort and joy to countless lives. Sherry leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion.
Sherry is preceded in death by her sons; Brett and Shane, as well as her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Childress, her daughter Karen of Norman, Oklahoma, her beloved sister Judy and her husband Phil. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren, Amanda Bottoms and Dale Utt, as well as seven nieces and seven nephews who were touched by her love. Among those who will miss her dearly are her fur babies, Toby, Tigger, Dover, and Maddie.
In the hearts of those she touched, Sherry's memory will forever shine bright, a beacon of love, warmth, and compassion. Rest in peace, dear Sherry, your legacy of kindness will live on in our hearts forever.
A memorial service for Sherry will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071.
Sherry will be laid to rest in Denver Cemetery, Norman, Oklahoma.
