Rose Rice was born June 19, 1932 in East Boston, Massachusetts to Theresa and Frank Cali (Caliverdi) who are of Messina, Sicily descent. Rose was born into a large family of ten siblings who were all very close. As a young girl Rose endearingly inherited the nickname Rosie and was always thought of as a kind, considerate, and easily approachable person.
As Rosie matured she married and gave birth to five children who have blessed her with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. As time passed Rosie began to be referred to as Grandma Rose not only by her grandchildren but also by the many people she touched with her quiet kindness and peaceful acceptance.
Countless people knew Rose for her gifted culinary skills, as an entrepreneur and chef, for So Good Restaurant and Something Good Restaurant. She also cooked and created menus for Joe’s Jaguar, children’s healthcare for Greater Boston Daycares, and many more grateful recipients. Rosie catered numerous social events with exceptional creativity and presentation, from premier fundraisers to business luncheons to good old fashioned “stop in and eat” sessions. Rose continued to have a special allure that warmed the heart and pulled you into her giving and nurturing ways.
She was preceded in death by three brothers Rocco, Phillip and Benjamin; and one sister Catherine.
Rose is survived by her five children Donna-Rose, Linda, Gina, Walter, and Cynthia; brothers Thomas, Frank Jr., Jimmy and Robert; sisters Gloria and Jeanette; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and not to forget Elaine Lombardi, her longtime friend and family member elect.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30AM Monday, September 24, 2012 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are trusted to the care of Primrose Funeral Service.
