Paula Lynn Green was born on November 15, 1951, to Willis H. Green and Marene West at the old Memorial Hospital on Coggin Avenue in Brownwood, Texas. She was the youngest of four siblings, with two older sisters, Louise and Judy, and an older brother, David, all of whom preceded her in death. Paula was especially close to her sister Judy throughout her life.
Paula graduated from Mullin High School in 1970. In 1972, she married Eugene McDaniel, and together they had two sons, Christopher (born in 1973) and Caleb (born in 1978). Following the end of that marriage, she married David Shores in 1980. They had a daughter, Kara, in 1982. Although this marriage ended as well, Paula and David remained close friends until his passing in February 2024. Paula often said that David was the love of her life.
Throughout her career, Paula worked in and around Brownwood. She spent several years as a waitress, followed by a position at Brownwood Manufacturing, where she worked alongside her sister Judy. Later, Paula worked for a decade at Underwood's Cafeteria.
A proud achievement in Paula’s life was her recovery from addiction. She had been clean and sober since October 1, 2002. Inspired by her personal experience, Paula decided to pursue higher education in her 50s. She graduated in 2009, obtaining her license as a chemical dependency counselor, and later went on to earn her bachelor’s degree. Paula worked for many years at the TR Havins Unit in Brownwood, where she counseled men with great compassion.
Unfortunately, Paula was forced to retire much earlier than she had hoped due to declining health. In 2022, she moved to Norman, Oklahoma, to be closer to her daughter for health reasons.
Paula's greatest joy was her grandchildren: Jeff McDaniel, Liam Hubbard, Charlotte Hubbard, and Cameron McDaniel. She was always eager to share stories about them, and they brought immense happiness to her life.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, and the fathers of her children. She is survived by her children: Chris McDaniel and his spouse Theresa, Caleb McDaniel and his spouse Leslie, and Kara Hubbard and her spouse Scott. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Liam, Charlotte, Jeff and Cameron, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends made along the way.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital South, including the nurses, respiratory techs, and support staff, as well as Doctors Nazir, Ashfaq, Khalid, and Saeed. A very special thank you goes to Dr. Tahirkheli and his staff, and to First Choice Hospice and nurse Tara for their compassion and for ensuring Paula’s final days were as comfortable as possible.
A celebration of life for Paula will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071.
