Nathan Loyd McGehee Jr., affectionately known as “Nate” or “Sonny” to his friends and “Pa” to his beloved grandchildren, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024. Born on October 6, 1939, in Micawber, Oklahoma, Nathan led a life rich in love, friendship, and dedication to his family and community.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carmilita. Nathan is survived by his three children: Marlena Marren and her husband John, Scott McGehee and his wife Debra, and Debbie Manning. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored and supported with unwavering enthusiasm.
Nate cherished every friendship he ever made, maintaining many lifelong bonds. His friends and family will forever remember his iconic laugh that could brighten even the loudest of rooms. He was a beacon of joy and laughter, deeply valued by all who knew him.
As “Pa” to his grandchildren, Nate was their guiding light and biggest cheerleader. He spent countless hours teaching them sports such as golf, baseball, softball, football, and boxing, dedicating his time and energy right up until his last days. He traveled thousands of miles across the country to support them at various tournaments and camps, always the first to clap and cheer at dance recitals and choir concerts. His grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he never missed an opportunity to show his pride and love for them.
Nathan was known for his generosity in sharing his knowledge and skills. If you ever needed a tune-up in your golf swing, Nate was the one to call. His expertise and willingness to help others were unmatched, always ready to lend a hand to fix whatever was wrong.
A true American patriot, Nathan Loyd McGehee Jr. embodied the values of loyalty, kindness, and dedication. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.
A public visitation for Nathan will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Primrose Funeral Service Chapel.
