Marlene Rose Schmidt, 88, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2024. Marlene was a beacon of warmth and compassion, and her life was a testament to the power of love and kindness.
Born in Crofton, Nebraska to Leslie and Katherine Logan, Marlene was the eldest sister to Lavone, Marlin, and Kathy. She attended Mount Marty High School in Yankton, South Dakota, where she became an accomplished typist and learned nursing skills that would shape the way she cared for her family soon to come. On October 10, 1956, she married Frederick Ernest Schmidt and they traveled the United States for his job in the Army while nurturing their young family, finally settling in Oklahoma in 1981. She has been an active member of St. Thomas More church in Norman since 1982.
A true caregiver at heart, Marlene was always looking out for those around her. She lived by the motto of “Being honest, trustworthy, gentle and kind,” and always gave freely of herself to make sure her loved ones were well taken care of. Marlene’s ability to bring warmth and light to even the gloomiest days provided a sense of security and comfort to those around her, and she truly was the glue that held the Schmidt family together through thick and thin. Her family fondly remembers her bright red sweatshirts, her famous chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, going garage saleing on early mornings, and her unwavering love of sunny days, red roses and Celine Dion.
Marlene is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Fred Schmidt; her siblings Lavone Wuestewald and Marlin Logan; her seven children Debra Lenhart, Teresa Asmussen, Steven Schmidt, Robert Schmidt, Susan Credille, Michelle Stamp, and Christine Pittman; and her twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Leslie and Katherine Logan, and her youngest sister Kathy Huss.
