Lou Etta married the love of her life Milam M. King on December 26, 1955. They spent 61 years together and raised 3 beautiful children. She earned a Bachelors in Education degree in 1970 from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, TX. Lou received her degree while being a full time mom and traveling back and forth from Corpus to Kingsville several days a week. She lived in Corpus Christi for 25 years before moving to Norman in 1992, where she stayed for the remainder of her years. Lou loved country music and was especially fond of the 50’s music. Some of her favorite artists were Elvis, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill. She loved the colors red and pink.
A perfect day for Lou Etta was loving on her pets, traveling with family, reading her bible, taking walks and visiting with her friends and family while enjoying some Whataburger, a crisp Dr. Pepper and Little Debbie’s oatmeal cookies. Lou wanted to be remembered by how sweet and kind she was. She was always a co-parent to her own children’s friends. Lou Etta taught many people different things throughout her lifetime. She would want you to always be kind and do the right things in life. Treat people how you would want to be treated. She also taught women to throw on a touch of color and add a little lipstick. Lou Etta loved to laugh, and everyone could make her laugh. She always had stories to tell about her kids, her kids at school and her pets.
Lou Etta loved her children and grandchildren most, but OU football and basketball came in as a close second. "During football season, Milam and Lou would finish teaching school on a Friday in Corpus and leave around 4:00 to drive to Oklahoma, arriving at 3:00 am, to attend an OU football game on Saturday and drive back home on Sunday. Depending on how many home games OU had would determine how many times they did this during a season. They were very happy when they moved back to Oklahoma and could attend OU sporting events anytime without a long drive."
Lou Etta is a retired school teacher (Corpus Christi Ind. School district). She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norman, OK and was a Drum majorette at Southeastern State College in Durant, OK.
