Lester Dewitt Boeck

Lester graduated from Tribbey High School in 1954. There, he played baseball, which ignited his love for sports.

Lester joined the U.S. Army in 1959. He honorably served four years and nine months as a Corporal in the 9th Infantry Division, working as a utility foreman. He earned a letter of commendation and a sharpshooter badge. While stationed in Korea, he met and married his wife, Sonja Boeck, on September 7, 1960. Together, they raised three devoted daughters: Wanda, Venita, and Linda.

He pursued a diverse career, working at a gas station and driving a semi-truck. He also drove school buses and was a dedicated employee at Bethel School, where his daughters received their education. On July 30, 1991, he retired from the US Postal Service after 14 years of service. He lived on Shawnee Lake Road in Bethel Acres for over four decades in the house they built before spending the last ten years in Norman, Oklahoma.

Throughout his life, Lester remained an avid fan of basketball, football, softball, and baseball. His favorite teams were the OKC Thunder and OU. He spent his retirement driving around Oklahoma, watching sports, riding a lawnmower and tractor, and growing vegetables that they sold to friends and various Asian markets. A variety of flowers surrounded their house. Later in life, he enjoyed visiting the casino and playing the slot machines.

Lester was preceded in death by his brother, Bennie Boeck, his sister, Dicy Booth, and his parents, Ed and Hattie Boeck.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sonja; daughters, Wanda (Byron) DeBruler, Venita (Steve) Womble, and Linda Smith; two granddaughters, Paige (Drew) Bodden and Jessi Womble and one great-grandson, Jackson Bodden. Lester has numerous nieces and one nephew.

Although he was known as a man of few words, his twinkling eyes and the grin beneath his white beard spoke volumes about his spirit. His family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him will deeply miss Lester.

Service will be Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 N. Porter Ave., Norman, Oklahoma 73071.
