Kenneth Ray Butler, 73, of Norman, passed away on January 17, 2014 in Norman. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel with Pastor Alan Sample presiding. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. A public visitation will be held at Primrose Funeral Service on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 8:00AM to 8:00 PM. Services are entrusted to Primrose Funeral Service.
Ken was born on January 17, 1941 in Hominy, Oklahoma to Mitchell Snipp and Helen Rachel Butler. He grew up in Oklahoma and joined the United States Air Force in 1960. He served his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. During that same year he spent 20 weeks at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois and then was assigned to the 12th Field Maintenance Squadron at Altus Air Force Base where he worked mostly on B-52’s and KC-135 tankers. In 1962, he was reassigned to technical training at Chanute Air Force Base for training as an Atlus (F) Missile Maintenance Technician. In 1963, he returned to Altus Air Force Base and worked on missiles for the next three years.
In December of 1964, he married Phyllis Ann Dewberry and they lived in Tipton, Oklahoma until 1965. In June of 1965, he was assigned to technical training at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi Mississippi as an Air Traffic Controller Specialist. In November of 1965 he was assigned to the 1930th Communication Squadron, March Air Force Base, Riverside California as an Air Traffic Controller Tower Operator. As an air Traffic Controller he was able to serve his country in Alaska, Texas, Vietnam, Mississippi and Oklahoma. In 1986, he was assigned to the 3rd Mobile Communications Group at Tinker Air Force Base and this is where Ken would retire from in 1989 after 29 years of service.
After retiring from the military, he joined the US postal Service as the Maintenance Supervisor and worked for the Postal Service until March of 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann (Dewberry) Butler of the home; son, Stanley Scott Butler and his wife Misti of Tuttle; daughter, Kendra Ann Butler of Norman; seven grandchildren, Roman Brooks, Tyler Perkins, Maycee Long Condren and her husband Matt Condren, Jake Long and his wife Caitlin Long, Savanna Long, Gabriel Butler and Phoenix Butler and two great grandchildren, Lilly Long and Amellia Condren.
