John Martin McMahon, 87, of Norman passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He was born to John and Hattie McMahon in Detroit, MI on January 30, 1927. He graduated Catholic Central High School in Detroit and joined the Navy as a radar/sonar operator on the Lexington CV16 Air Craft Carrier. After WWII he joined the U.S. Post Office. John and his family moved from Detroit to Norman, OK June 30, 1970 where he worked at the Oklahoma Postal Training Center located in Norman, OK. He received his B.S. in 1977 from Oklahoma City University.
John enjoyed many facets of life which included bowling, golfing, reading, biking, dancing and listening to music. His greatest pleasure was to be with his wife Pat and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His tender and caring ways will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia A. McMahon; sons, John McMahon and wife Sue, Jim McMahon and wife Cindy, daughters, Christine McMahon, Terry Green and husband Eric, Mary Elwell and husband Carlos, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The prayer vigil will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, July 27, 2014 in The Primrose Chapel, 1109 N. Porter Ave, Norman, OK. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Monday, July 28, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
