Jerry was born on October 19, 1936 in Healdton, Oklahoma to Robert & Cybil Lewis. He graduated from Clendenin High School in West Virginia. He ran off and married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Jean McQuain in 1954. Jerry began working for service stations, drove a truck cross country for several years to provide for his family. In 1969, he moved his family to Norman, Oklahoma to work for Harold Liddell (Liddell’s Plumbing). He has been a plumber ever since then and retired from the City of Norman in 2009. Over a period of time, the couple welcomed 6 children into their home. His children remember him as a driven father who encouraged them to work hard and have good work ethics.
Jerry was master at grilling and smoking meat. He loved having the family gathering at his house on Thanksgiving. The numbers varied from 54-82+ guest for dinner.
Jerry is survived by four sons: John Lewis (Kathy Thompson), Ashland City, TN; Joe Lewis (Cathy), Columbia, TN; Jeff Lewis (Susan), Norman, OK, and Jerry Lewis II (Patsy), Kingston Springs, TN. (10) Grandchildren and (20) Great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte Jean Lewis, and daughters Debbie Renae Lewis and Cara Jean “Jeannie” Lewis.
A funeral is scheduled for 10:00 am on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Primrose Funeral Home. Steve Lewis will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jerry’s life.
