James “Jim” Leon White peacefully stepped into the outstretched arms of Jesus on August 19, 2024 after a very well lived and long life. Jim was born February 23, 1934, in Dodson, Texas to Leon and Sally White. He had an older brother that died within hours of birth. He also had 3 younger brothers, Keith, Kenneth and John. He met his future wife and love of his life, Jeri, while working at Glen Eyrie in 1958 and married in 1961. They often spent their mornings reading and meditating on God’s word, praying for family and friends and listening to praise music. Since Jeri’s death in 2021, he often spoke of his longing of being reunited with Jeri and Jimmy in heaven and seeing Jesus face to face. Jim was a great story teller and always, when sharing a story, would connect it back to God’s word.
Jim and Jeri worked together with The Navigators (the only organization on his resume for his working career of 60+ years) in student ministry and marriage counseling. In the early 1990s, they began working among Chinese students studying at The University of Oklahoma, helping them to learn conversational English and hosting investigative Bible studies. Many people gave their lives to Christ after experiencing Jim and Jeri’s unconditional love and gentle boldness in sharing God’s truth. They worked in Lincoln, Nebraska, Washington, DC, Nairobi, Kenya, Colorado Springs and finally, in Norman, Oklahoma.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Leon and Sally White, his beloved wife Jeri, his brother Keith and by their youngest son, Jimmy. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-love, Rodney and Kellie White; a daughter, Valerie McCall; four grandchildren, Kelcie Brown and her husband Nick, Trey McCall, Daniel White and his wife Alex, Nathan White and his wife Kasey and four great-grandchildren, Maddie Austin, Samuel Brown, Emmy Brown and Addie Brown. He is also survived by his brothers Kenneth White and John White and his wife Ann and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great nephews.
