Duane Alan Stevenson was born October 1, 1947 in Mooreland, Oklahoma the youngest son of Clyde Wesley and Opal Fern (Cleckner) Stevenson. He graduated from Mooreland High School in 1965 and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University graduating from there in 1969 with a degree in French Education and Psychology. He passed away on September 10, 2012.
He married Carolyn Wyckoff in 1968 at Alva, Oklahoma. They have two daughters, Julie Anne and Alana Yvette.
Duane taught the 69-70 school year at Arkansas City High School in Kansas. He was then drafted into the Army, doing his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was then sent for further training at the Army's Defense Language Institute on Biggs Field in El Paso, Texas. He served in Vietnam as an interpreter/translator. After his Honorable Discharge, Duane taught the 72-73 school year at Waller Junior High in Enid, Oklahoma.
Even as a high school student, Duane worked school vacations for a road construction company. In the summer of 1973, he began working full time in the road construction industry. He worked for Broce Construction Company of Norman, Oklahoma and Cornell Construction Company of Clinton, Oklahoma. He retired in 2010.
Duane is survived by his wife Carolyn of the home; two daughters, Julie and Jeff Citro, Oklahoma City, Alana and Don Dorn, Piedmont; three grandsons, Jeff Citro II, Wesley Dorn and Tyler Dorn. Four sisters Ruth and Melvin Bird, Mooreland; Doris Eifert, Waukomis; Jean and Garry Wilcox, Plain City, Ohio; and Vinita Ware, Savanah, Missouri; two brothers, John and Phillys Stevenson, Weatherford and Jim Stevenson Kimball, Nebraska; also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, and three brothers, Wayne, Leon and Merlyn Lee Stevenson.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday at the Newcastle United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service.
