On March 21, 2023, Dorothy Jeanette (Culley) Adams passed away peacefully at the age of 91 after a brief illness. Dorothy was one of nine children born to Carl Culley and Minnie (Gray) Culley in El Reno, OK on April 4, 1931. She met her soon-to-be husband, Paul Junior Adams during High School, in El Reno, OK, and they were married on August 14, 1947.
Shortly after marriage, they moved to Norman where they raised their family and lived the rest of their lives. Dorothy and Paul had three sons, Dale Adams, Gary Adams, and Craig Adams. When Dorothy’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. But even by the standards of the era, Dorothy was an wonderful wife, mother, and eventually grandmother. She cared deeply for her family, and she was always their to offer support or help. Dorothy traveled the world with her husband helping build churches, as well as supporting Nazarene organizations in Oklahoma. She was an avid bowler, who bowled with the same team, every week for over 40 years in Norman, OK. She was also an active quilter most of her life, designing the most beautiful and intricate quilts for family and friends. She was always well put together, whether it was red nails or curled hair; and when she made up her mind, it was usually set, and no changing it! Later in life, she confessed that she did not love to cook. (Which most of us already knew!) At that time, it became an instant Christmas tradition to order Mexican food on Christmas Eve, which has latest over ten years. Dorothy will always be known for the loving, kind woman who would do anything for her family if it made life easier, and very often did that very thing.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Gary, wife Carmon, and son Craig, wife Cindy; her granddaughters, Danielle Mckenzie, husband Steven, Rachel Roberts, Kathryn Owens, husband Joshua, and grandson Derek Adams; and brothers, Bill, Don, and Dwayne Culley; and 5 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul and son Dale.
A celebration of her life will be held at Primrose Funeral Home on Monday, March 27th at 10am. The family will hold visitation on Sunday, March 26th at Primrose Funeral Home from 4-6pm.
