Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on June 1st 1920 to the late Florence Jewett Davis and Russell Rockwood Grant. He met and married his high school sweetheart, Marion Grant, June 12th 1943. Both attended Somerville High School. In the 1940’s Del worked as a machinist training women in manufacturing airplane engine parts during the war. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served on the ship USS Zellars DD-777. After leaving the service he and Marion resided in Andover, MA until Delfar accepted a position with IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY. IBM transferred Del to Boca Raton, FL where he retired in 1986. After retiring Del and Marion relocated to Palm Coast FL where he volunteered in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Delfar and his wife Marion moved to Norman OK to be near family in 1999, enjoying many years with them. Delfar volunteered one day a week at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History. He and Marion were active members of Goodrich United Methodist Church. Del enjoyed camping, biking, the ocean, surf fishing and his lighthouse collection. He enjoyed model rail roading since he was a boy. He also supported many charities, especially those that benefited children and veterans. Delfar is predeceased in death by his wife of 77 years, Marion McKenzie Grant or Norman, his son William Grant of Noble, daughter Elizabeth Ross of Noble, and granddaughter, Amanda Rae Ross, also of Noble. He is survived by his son, Robert Grant of Poughkeepsie, NY and a large family spanning four generations. A memorial service is scheduled for April 12th 2024 at 11am at Goodrich Memorial United Methodist Church 200 W. Hayes St. Norman OK. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Goodrich United Methodist Church.
