David was a sweet fella who loved his Norman town. Was so sad to hear of his passing and to realize that we would no longer be able to see him out and about as we made our daily trips across town. He sure will be missed. 

David was well known to many of us who have businesses in downtown Norman.

He had a remarkable memory and we often engaged in discussions of Norman lore from the 1950’s and 1960’s.

Sadly, those who regularly helped provide for his physical and emotional support were unable to save him from the vicissitudes of foul weather and homelessness.

I'm sorry to say I had no idea he had passed and missed his memorial. I would have been happy to play.  David would always greet me as 'the piano lady' or Sally and was always so kind.  My best memory of him was when he would sort his papers out on the  porch of the  kitchen entrance of the old shelter.  I was curious if he was sick or died of other complications.  May his sweet soul rest in peace.


I’ve had the pleasure of visiting with David on several occasions, giving him rides occasionally he was a very pleasant soul. I’ll miss seeing him around town and yelling “Hi David!” and watching him smile back with a wave. 

I’ve only known him for a little less than a year. He was always a very sweet man that would occasionally talk with me in British accents. He couldn’t remember my name but for a couple times and that’s okay, it’s a tricky one. I hear this song and know we’ll see each other again: 
I want to run on greener pastures
I want to dance on higher hills
I want to drink from sweeter waters

And my soul is getting restless

I met David years ago when I was a volunteer in the Norman community. It was such a joy to always hear him say, “Thank you, kind lady”.  May he rest peacefully. 

I would see David every day on the morning when I would go to the bank to drop out deposits for work. He was always so polite and sweet. Always called me the pretty girl with pretty hair. He had really great jokes and was always helpful and sweet. I'm so sorry for your loss. 

I met David a few years when volunteering at Food and Shelter and would occasionally come across him when on Main Street.  He was a sweet soul and was always kind to me when I would say hello. I hope he is at peace now.

I’m Rhonda Allen. I met David and his Mother 
15y ago. I was volunteering at Food&Shelter. He had the sweetest Mom. I would always end up at the table visiting with them His mom shared David’s story with me. She said plans were in order to care for David when she was gone , but worried when he out wandering.He didn’t friends. I assured her I would stop and visit him. I became someone David trusted . His mother passed, a couple times a month I would look for David if I haven’t seen in week. We have the same last name. He told me once , he was from a big family and he was positive that I was his cousin. From that point on, I was claimed to be his Cousin. He always greeted me as such from then on. I had surgery this past October, and  complications, about to have surgery again. So. I was unable to get out and drive . This morning, I saw this lovely page from DignityMemorial. My  heart was saddened. I’ll miss him greatly! Would family or someone contact me. I  would like to know how he passed. Would give me a little closure. David Allen  I Miss That Smile! 



I worked on Main St for many years and always enjoyed when David would pay me a visit. He proudly wore a smile all the time and was just so kind. 

I remember him fondly, I was a teenager when I first meet him. He would see me and my friends walking around Norman all the time. Every time he would see us he would tell us he wrote a new song for us. Then he would sing the same song as the one he song the last time he saw us out on the street. Each time we would act like we just heard it for the first time and tell him how much we loved the song. I can still sing that song now and it makes me smile every time I think of those times. 

I went to high school with David and would run into him sometimes around town. He was always very friendly and talkative.  My father was very helpful to him years ago I wish I could have been more helpful.  Maybe now you can rest in peace David.

David's such a beautiful soul. David had the ability to warm your heart and make you smile. He always noticed me but kindly liked to tell me "I remember you, but you've changed since the last time I've seen you." It was his way of apologizing for not remembering my name. We'd laugh because inevitably something had changed; my hair or my outfit. Norman won't be the same without him. Rest well, David, your kindness will forever have an impact. 

I met him in the parking lot of big brothers big sisters when he stayed a lot and I brought him things frequently and he was always so pleasant. I’m very sad to hear about his passing. 

My deepest sympathies to the family.  You all did the best you could to help David with his challenges.  I spoke to him on the street once, but I don’t believe he remembered me.  

David had challenges most people can hardly appreciate but he was always pleasant in conversation and would wish a good day for you. Heartfelt condolences to his family.

I would often see David around downtown Norman and around The Garage. My business shares a parking lot with The Garage and he was in the area quite a lot. I will miss seeing David in the neighborhood. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his family. 

David was such a kind soul..in all the years I knew him, he always greeted me with a smile and a sweet concern for what was going on in my life. I cherished his friendship..

David was a beloved member of Thunderbird Clubhouse. He shared his songs and art with us and was extremely talented. He would come into Clubhouse occasionally and share stories with a cup of coffee. He would also set up his papers in an office at Clubhouse and go to work writing and composing. He spent around 1.5 years in our one bedroom emergency shelter. We will miss his laugh, spirit, and compassion.
