

Curtis Herman “Buster” Songer, age 95, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, December 24, 2011. Curtis was born on March 5, 1916 to George and Ruby Songer in Fort Townsend, OK. He was the second of eleven children.
A teenager during the Great Depression, Curtis survived the dust bowl era in Oklahoma. He subsequently drove a city bus in Norman, OK, where he met and married Naomi White-Carter, his wife of 46 years. He later moved to Spokane, WA, where he worked in a factory as a sheet metal fabricator and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He retired there in 1981. After Naomi passed, Curtis returned to Norman at age 77. He later married his childhood sweetheart, Estell Potts-Smith, enjoying six years together before she passed. For the last three years he has lived with his son in Wexford, PA.
He is survived by his daughter, Mettie Bell Workun, his son, Curtis, his daughter-in-law, Martha, brothers Vester and Carol, sisters Dorothy and Vay, as well as ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
Curtis will be remembered as a man of patience, a faithful and devoted husband, thoughtful and very industrious. He was a man of sacrificial service, constantly giving his time and effort to others.
Services will be held at the Primrose Funeral Service Chapel at 10:00am on Wednesday, January 4. Immediately following, he will be gently laid to rest beside his wife, Naomi, at the IOOF Cemetery in Norman. A reception will be held at Primrose Event Center at noon. All friends and family are welcome.
