Christene Broom, 89, of Norman passed from this life March 20, 2015. Christene was born July 13, 1925 in Foster, OK to Bill and Nettie Snodgrass. She was the oldest of three girls and graduated from Burrows High School. She married William “Jess” Broom on December 7, 1943 and attended Draughn’s Business School in Oklahoma City while Jess was overseas during WWII. They lived most of their married life in Marlow, where they raised three children while Christene worked for Marlow Public Schools. She and Jess volunteered many hours for the VFW and Women’s Auxiliary, and she served at the State President of the Women’s Auxiliary.
In 1999, they moved to Norman to be near family. After Jess’s death May 13, 2000, Christene continued to be an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church and became a volunteer for Norman Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She moved to Sterling House in 2013 and continued to live an active social life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Jess; sister, Joyce Rouse; and granddaughter, Christa Formanek of Chicago, IL.
She is survived by her children: JoAnn Formanek and husband George of Chicago, Billie Jean Wallace and husband Mike of Norman, and son Richard Broom and wife Kimberle of Norman; grandsons: Gary Goodin of Lawton, Brian Goodin and wife Shelley of Bartlesville, Will Broom and wife Anne of Norman, and Joe Formanek of Chicago; great grandchildren: Alex, Kaitlynn, Tyler, and Bryce Goodin, Jessie and Jake Broom; and sister, Joyce Rouse of Marlow.
Funeral ceremony will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 23 at Immanuel Baptist Church, with Rev. Ken Huddleston officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery in Lindsay, OK.
