Charles “Chuck” Skelton was released of duty and called home to his Lord on March 4th, 2016 at 6:40 p.m. Chuck fought a long and hard battle with diabetes as well as suffering from a life threatening brain tumor.
Sargent Skelton served 20 years in the U.S. Marine, serving four terms in Vietnam. While serving in the Mediterranean he was called back in 1975 for the emergency evacuation of the people of Vietnam. He toured in various countries of France, Italy, Germany and Russia, Australia, Panama Canal, southern tips of Africa and South America. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Kameohe Bay Hawaii, Iwakuni Japan, Butler Okinawa Japan, Camp LeJeune N.C. and MCB Quantico. He served in various Embassy Duties. Chuck received numerous medals to mention of which was the Purple Heart which he received while serving in the Vietnam War.Upon leaving the service he worked for Dolese Brothers for 19 years building bridges, four years at Rinkers, five years with Sooners Security, five years at Riverwind Casino’s security and a year and half at Boyd Security. He had a tremendous love for the country life enjoying gardening, raising chickens, quails and watching the deer from his front yard. The only thing he loved more than his family was his love for dogs and cats that spent many hours keeping company with him since 2009.
Survivors include his wife: Jan Meiser Skelton and daughter: Cindy Morrison; siblings: Martha King of Marvell, AR, Jim and Kathleen Skelton of Melba, ID, Lester and Deborah Skelton of McAllen, TX, Kathryn Graham of Round Rock,TX, Bill and Sarah Hickman of Meeker, OK, Shirley and John Wiley of Moore, OK Patsy and Walter Varner of Poplar Grove, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents: James Cecil Skelton and Auduary (Fannon) Hickman; brother: Jerry Hickman.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Diabetic Foundation, St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Marks and St. Thomas More or Second Chance Animal Rescue.
Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday March 7, 2016 at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 N. Porter Ave. Norman, OK 73071.
Memorial Service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday March 8, 2016 at Primrose Funeral Service.
