Charles Douglas “Doug” Grant, age 69, died early Sunday morning, June 11, 2017, at Norman Regional Healthplex. From his birth in Oklahoma City to his death on Sunday, Doug blessed and selflessly served countless people through his many amazing abilities and brilliant mind. He was born to his father, Chad Grant, and his mother, Mavis (Norman) Grant on August 2, 1947. From an early age he was taking things apart - and learning to put them back together! Growing up in Dallas, Texas, watching his extraordinarily talented preacher father design, build, and repair just about everything, he learned how to use his gifts for the Lord, be a servant, and take pride in his work. "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!" Doug, ever the perfectionist, always said. As a junior in high school Doug designed and built custom air-conditioners for automobiles, including one for actor Paul Newman’s Ferrari (and then he test drove it). After graduating from high school, he attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK (now Southern Nazarene University) where he sang in the "College Men Four" quartet (the official touring quartet representing the college) and Chorale where he won the first "Director's Award." It was here that he met his future wife, LaDora Elder, whom he married on April 10, 1971, in Dallas, Texas.

Doug found his life’s work as an instructor at the National Postal Service Center for Employee Development, in Norman, Oklahoma, where he was employed at the time of his death.

God was always the first priority in Doug’s life, followed closely by his devotion to his family. He was heavily involved in every church he attended. He believed in tithing his time as well as financial resources, following the example set by his parents. He believed it was his responsibility to maintain his church’s and pastor’s vehicles and equipment. In addition to being the minister of music at five Nazarene churches, he was a youth pastor and even designed and installed sound systems. At Norman First Church of the Nazarene (now Norman Community Church of the Nazarene) he served as chairman of the Building and Properties Committee during the construction of the current facility. He was presented with the Bob Adams Memorial Christian Service Award, the "And Then Some" award, and the Church of the Nazarene Distinguished Service Award for his years of service there.

Doug is survived by his wife, of the home; two children, Jonathan Grant and wife, Amy, and Christopher Locke Grant and wife, BranDee; and two grandchildren, Emberly Grant and Sameth Grant; one sister: Sue Watson and husband, Lindell; and two nephews: Aaron Watson and wife, April, and Russell Watson and wife, Lori.

Left to mourn his passing is his cat, Midnight, of the home.

Memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Norman Community Chruch of the Nazarene.
