Born November 17, 1949 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Barbara was the eldest of three sisters and grew up moving across the country with her World War II army veteran father and German mother. As a teenager, her family settled in Seward, Nebraska and she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Most of her adult life was spent in Oklahoma where she worked as a social worker for the Department of Human Services and raised her three children. She enjoyed cross-stitch and made her family’s Christmas stockings by hand. Dogs adored her, and she volunteered with a rescue group providing a home to many elderly greyhounds and cocker spaniels. She also loved reading and heavy metal music.
She is loved and will be missed by family and friends including her children and their spouses (Chris and Betsy Sieck of Norman, OK, Jessica Sieck and Adrian Santic of Seattle, WA, Jon and Julia Sieck of Cleveland, OH), her grandchildren (Sadie, Sam, and Lucy), and her sister and brother-in-law (Trisch and Jeff Unger of Chandler, AZ). She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosemarie and Hal Cummins, and sister HJ Cummins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hounds of the Heartland.
