She had an ideal childhood, growing up with good friends, Bob Goins and sisters, James Argo, Charles Stowe and her brother Jerry Lynn. A favorite activity often included stopping by the Gilt Edge Dairy for a frozen treat. She attended Norman schools was a straight A student and cheerleader. She participated in many choral and dramatic events, passing the trait along to her children and grandchildren. Sometimes a little reckless behind the wheel of a car, she none the less was able to negotiate the metropolis of Norman. She studied music and interior design at OU. Barbara loved to dance and had a beautiful soprano voice. Learning the piano at an early age, she delighted in playing for her parents and spent many hours playing duets with her cousin Beverly and later her sister-in-law Janet.
She married Duane Wilson in 1952 and had daughter Lisa in Wichita, KS, moving back to Norman in 1959. She married Van Ewing in 1961 and had daughter Vana and son Finis Lynn. They owned and operated Ewing’s Home Furniture for 10 years, where she put to good use her love of interior design by participating in the Annual Parade of Homes. She went to work at Central State Hospital and the Central Oklahoma Community Mental Health Center as an administrative assistant. She transferred to the Regional Education Service Center in Moore, retiring in 1996.
She enjoying playing cards, scrapbooking and making cookies with the grandkids, who affectionately called her Maga. She was generous to a fault and never passed a garage sale where she didn’t find a toy or present for a friend. Her greatest love outside family and music was her love for God and neighbor. She spent countless hours during the last 37 years teaching people the Bible and sharing the promises of God’s Kingdom. She was very involved in the congregation playing the piano for over 20 years. It was a joy for all to hear her sing and play.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Velma Bullard; husbands Duane and Van; daughter Jerilyn and sister-in-law Janet Bullard.
Survivors include her brother Retired Captain Jerry Bullard of Pensicola, Fl; daughters Lisa and husband Mark Sparks of Noble, Vana Young of Noble; son Finis of Moore; 7 grandchildren Michaela, Ryan, and Justine Sparks, Destini Shayla, Brooke, and Dylan Ewing; great-grandson Zane Wikel; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial service will be held 2PM Saturday, December 18th at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 2201 S. Imhoff in Norman.
Our thanks and appreciation goes to the Noble Health Care Center for their loving care of mom all these years. She will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know her.
