Obituary of William Franklin Sizemore
William Franklin “Frank” Sizemore, age 84, passed away on July 16, 2024. He was born in Boonville Township, Yadkin County, NC to Jones J. and Julia Ann Sizemore. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty J. Sizemore; ten siblings: Harvey, Charles, Jack, Eli, Ida, Edna, Ann, Effie, Nell, and Maude; his son-in-law, Johnny Driggers (husband of Vanessa); and his granddaughter, Christina Dewhirst (wife of Timothy, Sr.). Frank was a dedicated worker, spending much of his life at Berkeley Machine and Norfolk Ship Building and Drydock, often juggling both. In addition to his professional commitments, he selflessly served as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic. In quieter moments, Frank cherished sitting on his porch with friends, attending church, and collecting scrap metal. He could be found cheering on his beloved Indianapolis Colts, New York Yankees, and Alabama football team during their respective seasons. Above all, Frank cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, affectionately giving each a special nickname that held a special place in his heart. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Chinh; brother-in-law, Kenneth Martin, Jr. (Sheila); daughters, Linda Dewhirst (Bill), Vanessa Driggers, Tammie Mckleroy, Lyn Nguyen (Hai), Lan Tran (Phien), Trang Son (Soi); grandchildren, Timothy Dewhirst Sr., William C Dewhirst (Sarah), Jeffrey Sizemore (Rachael), Carmen Ganoe (Michael), Katie Cottrell (Kyle), Tara Mckleroy, Jimmy Nguyen, Tina Nguyen, Micheal Nguyen, Phillip Tran, Philano Tran, Tifani Son, Michelle Son, and Destiny Son; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other family members and friends. The family invites friends for a time of visitation on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk.
